Friday - wisdom Proverbs 29:7 MSG The good-hearted understand what it’s like to be poor; the hardhearted haven’t the faintest idea. Are you and I good-hearted? Or hard hearted? #lovepeople #somethingtothinkabout #proverbs #wisdom #friday
Ephesians 2:1-6 MSG It wasn’t so long ago that you were mired in that old stagnant life of sin. You let the world, which doesn’t know the first thing about living, tell you how to live. You filled your lungs with polluted unbelief, and then exhaled disobedience. We all did it, all of us doing what we felt like doing, when we felt like doing it, all of us in the same boat. It’s a wonder God didn’t lose his temper and do away with the whole lot of us. Instead... Or as the NLT version says "But God..." he chose to make a way... #!
Matthew 5:21-22 ESV You have heard that it was said to those of old, You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable   to judgment. But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, You fool! will be liable to the hell of fire. Words are important, sticks and stones and all that...its not just what we say, but the intent in our heart. This is where Jesus is always looking...at our heart attitude towards others. The angry words we speak can harm us more than their intended target... #wordsofJesus #redletters #lovepeople #watchyourwords
Ephesians 1:23 NLT And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself. Not just somewhere we go on Sunday...more than a community of people doing life together...but it is Jesus body...how he works in the world is thru us. The church. We are his hands and feet in the world... #wow
1 Corinthians 13:4-5 ESV Love...is not arrogant or rude. If loving others really is my profession, then why am i just rude towards them? Rude [rood ] 1. discourteous or impolite, especially in a deliberate way: My excuse is that i am trying to be funny or its just a joke...but so often its at someone elses expense...but whatever it looks like, love is not arrogant, and love is not rude. #somuchtolearn #lovepeople #loveismyprofession
Psalm 95:1-5 MSG Come, let’s shout praises to God , raise the roof for the Rock who saved us! Let’s march into his presence singing praises, lifting the rafters with our hymns! And why? Because God is the best... Coming together with other believers is so important, singing your heart out...because God is the best...he has made us with purpose and intent, he loves us and wants a relationship with us...and sacrifically made a way... #sunday #worship #gettochurchtoday
Just wondering this morning about the power and importance of music in our lives and culture...how it can make us feel...touch our hearts...bring us to worship God...and can point us to eternity... I want to run I want to hide I want to tear down the walls That hold me inside I want to reach out And touch the flame Where the streets have no name #aarongilmore #parachute2014 #wherethestreetshavenoname
Friday - Wisdom Proverbs 29:6 AMP In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare, but the [uncompromisingly] righteous man sings and rejoices. You have to read this a couple of times to get it...so think damaged relationships where actions have had consequences...or selfish or illegal business decisions that have come back to haunt...compared to the uncompromisingly righteous...the person who works hard to maintain their integrity in all situations, who makes right choices...that person sings and rejoices...they can only do that with a clear conscience... #somethingtothinkabout #uncompromisinglyrighteous #singandrejoice
Romans 8:35, 38 NLT Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love... #neverlosttoGod
Last night on 60 minutes there was a story on the lost boys of Sudan. Young boys whose families had been killed who walked 1500km across Africa to safety...one young man after 10 years in refugee camps, having seen his friends and family die, has one possession to take with him as he is selected to emigrate to the US. One thing that he has kept with him for 10 years, that he says is his life. That one thing is his battered and worn Bible. "They may call me a lost boy...but I've never been lost to God" No matter what we might go through, we never have to be lost to God. #keepintheword #neverlosttoGod
We like to think that we are in control of our lives...and then the earth shakes and you realise it can all change in an instant. Do we choose to have faith in God only when everything is good? Here is a modern psalm from Parachute Band... You are my rescue When hope seems lost You are my refuge When I am frail God of hope Hold me close Jesus You've carried me this far I'll hold on to this hope inside my heart When all else fades You remain Your hands that made me Carry me still Your every promise Will be fulfilled God of hope Hold me close When the earth beneath me shakes It's only by Your hand that I am safe When all else fades Jesus You remain #WhenallelsefadesJesusYouremain
1 Thessalonians 5:16 NLT Always be joyful... "choose joy" are words that have been heard around our house this year. Will I choose joy today? #choosejoy #gratitude
Psalm 69:30 ESV I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving. I will praise I choose to be thankful. Despite my circumstances I will praise, I will be thankful. V29 says "I am in pain and distress..." yet in the next verse he still chooses thankfulness and praise. May we choose that today and every day :) #sunday #praise #choosethankfulness
Friday - wisdom...but on Saturday :) Proverbs 29:5 ESV A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet. Well...this is interesting...when we flatter someone we are at risk of ensnaring them in a trap. When we flatter we are praising insincerely or in a false way and that sets a trap of false or unrealistic expectations... #somethingtothinkabout #proverbswisdom #betterlatethannever
1 Thessalonians 5:18 ESV ...give thanks in all circumstances; No matter what you face today, give thanks. Give thanks for the 3 from yesterday plus 3 more today :) #thankfulheart #greatwaytostarttheday #countyourblessings
Ephesians 5:20 ESV ...giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ... What are the first thoughts in your head in the morning? What are the messages that run around in your mind? Start today with giving thanks. Give thanks to God.for 3 things in your life...3 blessings, or 3 people...we can all think of 3 :) #thankfulheart #givethanks
Ephesians 1:20-23 MSG All this energy issues from Christ: God raised him from death and set him on a throne in deep heaven, in charge of running the universe, everything from galaxies to governments, no name and no power exempt from his rule. And not just for the time being, but forever . He is in charge of it all, has the final word on everything. #theonetoworship #Jesus
Part 2 of 2 from Sunday... John 12 v 3-5 Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But Judas Iscariot said... If we respond to the criticism then you lose the opportunity to worship Jesus. Break the bottle, fill the house...be at the feet of Jesus... When you are at the feet of jesus the objectors to your faith, to your worship, have no power to bring you down...be at the feet of Jesus...I hear his word and my life is anchored in his promises... #stevenfurticktheexpectationgap #sundaypreaching #breakthebottle #fillthehouse
John 12v3-5 Mary took a pound of expensive ointment... and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But Judas...said Why was this ointment not sold...and given to the poor? Mary spent a year's salary in that moment. An act that only Jesus really understood. An act of worship that annoyed others - when was the last time that I was criticised for my passion for God? Jesus understood and liked what Mary did. Judas didn't. Who am I living for? to hear affirmation and appreciation from Judas? Or Jesus? #sundaysermon #extravagantworship
Matthew 5:17 ESV “Do not think that I have come to abolish   the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but   to fulfill them..." Jesus is the centre of it all. The fulfillment of all Gods promises. And to do that he had to give it all away...an act of love for us that never needs to be, nor could be, done again. #Jesusatthecentre #gooddaytoworship #Sunday
Psalm 27:5 ESV For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; We live in a world where disease, death, deceit, suffering, loss, disappointment, violence, & war exist. None of which were part of God's original intention. People's motivations are not what God intended. No relationship is free of disappointment, no institution totally free of corruption, no location free of difficulty...we are all touched by the fall. The only way to navigate in this broken world is by the light of God's word, and the enabling power of Gods grace. In our trouble God has not left us alone. He comes to us armed with transforming grace and liberating wisdom. Jesus. May today your eyes and heart be open to him, the truth of his word, and the grace that he gives to face all that is in front of you. #shelterinthestorm #psalm27 #graceandtruth
Friday - Wisdom Proverbs 29:4 NLT A just king gives stability to his nation, but one who demands bribes destroys it. Its unlikely that you or I will be made a king or queen, but we all have (or will have in the future) authority over others. Are we just? Requiring a bribe is just wanting something for our own benefit, to get my way... Bribe = anything given to persuade or influence #bejust #lovepeople #Friday #Proverbs #chaseafterwisdom
Ephesians 1:19-20 NLT I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. #Godisonourside #hardthingtograsp #ittakesprayer
Part 3 of 3 "Even now..." Martha says in v22 In the midst of her greatest disappointment (Laz dying, Jesus not saving him) her faith in Jesus remained. Even now. I almost missed it cos i was going to leave  the game early. Dont let your expectations die a premature death. Maybe the scene of your greatest disapointment could be the place of the greatest miracle. Go & meet Jesus (as Martha did -John 11v20). Express your disapointment. Stay in the game. If God always met my expectations he would never exceed them. Every unmet expectation is a chance for an upgraded view of God. God's perspective is different to ours...hang in there with Him through the good and the disappointing. Stay in the game. #sermoninatxt
Part 2 of 3 He shared a story of being at a football game and there was an amazing score right at the end (all blacks v ireland!), but he almost missed it because he was going to leave the game early to beat the crowds. John 11:21-22 NLT Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask.” Even tho Martha didn't know the outcome, she stayed at the game. Are we prepared to hang in there with God no matter what? #sermoninatxt
The preacher on Sunday was in John 11 - the death of Lazarus. V1-5 sets up a healing miracle. Mary & Martha who had helped Jesus, who Jesus loved, needed Jesus help. Jesus the healer who had helped and healed so many others But in v6 Jesus heard what was needed... and...stayed away. They must have been disappointed in Jesus. Sometimes following Jesus can lead to disappointment. When he can heal and doesn't we are disappointed They wanted Jesus to come as a king, to be born in a palace. He was born in a barn. To a teenage mum, from a hick town. He was always disapointing peoples expectations. #moretomorrow #sermoninatxt #John11v1-6 #expectationsdonotequalexperience
Ephesians 1:18 NLT I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. :)
Ephesians 1:14 NLT The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him. To glorify God. To make him bigger, so that others would see him... #Godsguarantee #inheritanceiscoming #purchasedbyGod #purpose
Friday / wisdom / Proverbs Proverbs 29:3 MSG If you love wisdom, you’ll delight your parents... Its easy to do or say what feels right, to respond quickly, to let our emotions take over...but sometimes the path of wisdom gets us to slow down, think things thru, consider the consequences, consider others...seek out the opinions of "wise" people... #lovewisdom #proverbs
Ephesians 1:13-14 NLT And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. #believeandsaved #holyspirit #identifiedasGods
Romans 12:9 NLT Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Welcome to 2014:) January1 is for many a day to consider priorities, make changes, determine to do some things differently...may our priorities be governed by God's word this year, holding tight to the good, discarding the wrong, and loving the people God has put in our path... #blessings #2014bringiton #lovepeople
